Originally intended as a personnel carrier, the M3 half-track was also configured for a variety of other roles. This anti-aircraft version is fitted with the M45 Quadmount “quad-fifty” consisting of four.50 caliber Browning machine guns mounted on an electrically driven turret.

The Soldier’s Pack

The soldier’s pack was made of integrated components built around the haversack (1). With the pouch on top (2) that held the mess kit, the haversack served as a compact assault pack. The bottom of the haversack and the shoulder straps (4) connected to the ammunition belt (3) or pistol belt. The entrenching shovel (5) fit between the meat can and the haversack, and the bayonet (6) attached to the left side. The canteen (7) and the first aid kit (8) hung from the belt.
